What is the Turinui Cup?
The Turinui Cup is Clovelly Eagles JRFC’s annual Under 9s Friday Night Championship — giving players and families a taste of what’s ahead in SJRU Under 10s competition rugby. Played under lights at Latham Park, the tournament features eight selected teams in a round-robin format, using Under 10 rules, full-field games and competitive structure — culminating in a final match and trophy presentation.

5:30pm Coaches & Managers Briefing (compulsory)
6:00pm Games Commence
9:00pm Trophy Presentation
Please arrive early — games will run back-to-back with no delays between matches.
Format & Rules Overview
- Under 10 rules (with minor modifications)
- Uncontested scrums
- Full field, with 5m sidelines
- 18–minute games — no halftime
- Minimum of 3 pool games per team
- Top pool teams compete in final for The Turinui Cup
Key Guidelines for Teams & Supporters
- 12 players per side, max 18 per squad
- Unlimited interchange
- Coaches and reserves must remain in the team box
- No coaches on the field or sidelines during play
- Substitutions made via the Assistant Referee (AR) only
Each team must provide:
- Ground Marshall in orange vest
- 2 water runners in bibs (not the coach)
Code of Behaviour
This tournament also aims to educate coaches, players and supporters about expectations in competition rugby:
- Referees must be respected at all times
- No sideline coaching or abuse
- Ground Marshalls are responsible for:
- Keeping supporters behind ropes
- Managing any behavioural issues
- Responding if a referee pauses the game due to spectator behaviour
Any breach of this code may result in team removal from the tournament.
