Whether you are returning for another year or joining us for the first time, we are so glad you are here. Since 1962 our club has been built on community, effort, fun and the belief that rugby gives children something special: confidence, friendships and a sense of belonging.
🦅 Who we are
The Clovelly Eagles is a community-driven junior rugby club for boys and girls aged 4 to 12. We have always been more than a rugby club. We are a place where children learn teamwork, resilience and respect, and where parents work together to create something lasting for our community.
We are part of the Randwick Junior Rugby network and play under Sydney Junior Rugby Union.
💙 Our club motto: “Play to win, learn to lose”
It guides everything we do.
- Fair go for every player
- Participation and fun before results
- Teamwork on and off the field
The Clovelly way is simple. We want kids to enjoy rugby, make friends and grow in confidence while being part of a supportive, family-focused community.
Below is everything families need for the 2026 season.

Minis and Get Into Rugby
What is “Get Into Rugby”?
Rugby Australia’s official entry program for ages 4 to 7.
- U4–U5: Walla Rugby
- U6–U7: Tri Time which includes contact readiness and non-contact Tri Tag
- U8-U9: Contact (tackle) OR non-contact Tri Tag
What is the U8-U9 non-contact Tri Tag option?
Sydney Junior Rugby Union (SJRU) will be launching this new non-contact Tri Tag competition for the 2026 season. It is intended to be an inclusive, fun and safe competition for U8 & U9 mixed gender teams. Detailed information will be shared by SJRU in late December/early January. For now, we encourage all new players who wish to play this non-contact version of rugby to register. Once SJRU knows the number of registered players and teams in this competition, draw information, including day/time/venues will be announced. The intention is for this competition to run in each district as part of the regular Minis competition.
What age groups are “Minis”?
U4 to U9.
What age group are “Juniors”?
U10 to U12.
What rules do you play?
Our Minis and Juniors teams play to modified laws that are adapted to allow for progressive development of the player. The philosophy of the modified laws is focused around the player, making the game safer to ensure each player receives the greatest possible participation and enjoyment from playing the game of rugby. The aim of the modified rugby game is to develop the individual skills, fitness and team work of all players in accordance with their physical maturity and understanding of the game.
See here for more detailed info: https://sjru.rugby/junior-rugby/

Girls in rugby
Is rugby for girls?
Absolutely. We have strong female participation and would love to see even more girls join in 2026.
NEW Girls Play Free
Any girl who has never played rugby union before will have the club portion of their fees refunded after registration. This is our third year running this initiative to support more girls joining the game.
Training and games
When is training?
Training is held at Burrows Park, Clovelly, on Mondays or Wednesdays between 4pm and 7pm, depending on the age group.
For 2026, we will be training in age groups rather than separate teams. This builds community, strengthens coaching and supports balanced team formation.
See confirmed Training times.
When and where are games played?
Minis (U6–U9)
Saturday mornings at Nagle Park, Maroubra.
Games usually run from 8am to 12.30pm.
The season includes two adventure rounds and one SJRU gala.
Juniors (U10–U12)
Friday nights.
Home games are at Nagle Park or Latham Park.
Away games depend on which clubs join the Friday night competition.
Wet weather
What happens if it rains?
Our policy is simple: rugby is on until it is off.
Randwick Council decides whether Burrows Park, Nagle Park or Latham Park are open or closed.
Once council notifies us, we update managers and our WhatsApp channels.
If you do not hear otherwise, assume training or games are on.
Safety and tackling
Is rugby safe?
Player safety is our priority. A qualified medic is present at all home games and coaches teach safe technique from the start of every season.
When does tackling start?
Optional tackling begins in the final four weeks of U7, taught gently and with a focus on safe technique.
From 2026, SJRU will offer an optional non-tackle Tri Time competition for U8 and U9 teams. More information will be shared once it is confirmed.
Fees
How much are the club fees for 2026?
Early bird (until 30 January 2026):
U5–U7: $212 + levies
U8–U12: $235 + levies
Standard (from 31 January 2026):
U5–U7: $235 + levies
U8–U12: $295 + levies
Club fees include: playing jersey, training shirt, shorts and socks, ground hire and equipment, interclub tournaments and gala days, eligibility for Randwick Rep trials (U10–U12), trophies, the club’s annual report, an end-of-season gift for all players, plus season launch and presentation day BBQs.
Levies cover SJRU, NSW Rugby, insurance and administration and are added automatically at checkout and sit separately from Clovelly Eagles’ club fees. For 2026, these total $47.25 for Get Into Rugby – Tri Time (U5–U7), $85.25 for XVs Juniors (U8–U9) and $91.25 for XVs Juniors (U10–U12).
Why have fees increased?
After careful consideration, our committee voted to raise fees this year by around 10 per cent. This supports:
- rising operational costs
- upgraded equipment and coaching support
- stronger safety measures
If your family is experiencing financial difficulty, please reach out. We will always try to help.
Refund policy
Your registration fee is split across several bodies: Clovelly Eagles, Sydney Junior Rugby Union, NSW Rugby Union, insurance, etc.
The club can only refund the portion it receives directly. The governing body components cannot be refunded. If you need to discuss a refund due to injury, relocation or other circumstances, please email us. We will always take a considerate approach within the limits of the Rugby Xplorer system.
Uniforms and merchandise
How do I get my child’s uniform?
Your uniform kit (jersey, training shirt, shorts and socks) is included in your registration fee, but it will not be sent unless you order it. After registering on Rugby Xplorer, log in to our new online store to order your uniform at no cost with the code CLOVELLY26. Uniforms will be delivered directly to your home via Australia Post, with a small postage fee. The uniform bundle is limited to one per registered player. If you would like to purchase another shirt, shorts or socks, simply order at the price listed on the website. If you have multiple children, you will need to create separate orders.
An expanded range of additional merchandise is also be available for sale through our online store.
If you order before 15 January, you will likely receive your uniform in mid-March.
If you order after this cutdoff date, you will likely receive your uniform in late April.
What should my child wear before their uniform arrives?
A T-shirt and shorts is fine. School PE kits are common too.
Can returning players wear last year’s uniform?
From 2026, we ask returning players to either:
- donate their old uniform with the previous sponsor back to the club (bring it to season launch), or
- keep it for personal use only, but not wear it to training or games
It is important that all players wear the correct updated kit to support the businesses who sponsors us.
Equipment and gear
What boots and protective gear are required?
- plastic-studded rugby boots
- mouthguards from U8 (strongly encouraged earlier) – our sponsor Wellness Dental Bronte offers a discount!
- optional headgear and shoulder pads
Team requests
Can I request a specific coach or team?
You register with the club, not a specific team.
We will do our best to keep friends together, but placement depends on:
- balanced team numbers
- safety
- positional needs
- waitlists
- district rules
Our Recruitment and Player Allocation Policy guides all team formation decisions.
Communication
How will I stay up to date?
We use:
- a club-wide WhatsApp community channel
- team WhatsApp groups
- email newsletters
- Rugby Xplorer notifications
Your team manager will keep you updated each week with more practical updates such as draws, fields, meeting times, etc.
Volunteering
Do I have to volunteer?
You do not have to, but it is greatly appreciated.
We are a not-for-profit community club and every coach, manager, BBQ helper and committee member is a parent giving their time. There is a role for everyone.
You can help with:
- one-off BBQ shifts
- match day set-up and pack-down
- events
- sourcing raffle prizes
- selling raffle tickets
- school outreach
- or take on a role like coach, manager, ground marshal or committee member
Many hands make light work and volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with the club community.
Can I donate instead of volunteering?
If you are unable to volunteer regularly, you can choose to make a tax-deductible donation to support the club. This helps fund:
- specialist coaching
- new equipment
- safer and better quality gear
Donations are managed through the Australian Sports Foundation and can be made during registration or any time at:
https://www.clovellyeagles.com.au/donate-to-the-clovelly-eagles/
Every contribution strengthens our club.
Building our club culture
How can I contribute to the Clovelly Eagles spirit?
- Be kind, supportive and inclusive
- Cheer for all the kids
- Be on time for training and games
- Read club communications
- Respect referees and volunteers
- Share sponsorship leads
- Encourage new families to join
- Wear your Eagles gear proudly
- Attend our social events
The more you put in, the richer your family’s club experience will be.
